Age Verification & the 18+ Policy
Last updated: 28 July 2026
Meet Me Gently is sold as an adults-only product. This page explains why, exactly how we check age today, what a visitor can see before confirming their age, and the open questions around stronger age-assurance rules that any seller needs to resolve before launch.
1. Why this exists
After Dark is an explicit, adults-only add-on to the core deck. The core deck itself — Steady, Open, Reach and Repair — is not explicit content; it's built around plain-spoken, attachment-informed conversation prompts. Even so, the shop as a whole is sold and marketed as an 18+ product, because After Dark sits alongside it in the same store, the same checkout, and the same account.
↑ Back to top2. The rule
You must be at least 18 years old — or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, if that is higher than 18 — to buy any product from this site, to preview or view any After Dark content, or to hold an account with us. If either age threshold is not met, please leave the site and do not attempt to purchase.
↑ Back to top3. How we verify
We are direct about what our current process is, and isn't. It has two layers:
- A self-attestation age gate shown before any explicit preview or After Dark content is displayed — you confirm your age by an affirmative click before anything explicit loads.
- A mandatory age-confirmation tick box at checkout, required to complete any purchase, which is recorded against the order.
What we store from this process is limited and specific: the fact that an attestation was made, a timestamp of when it happened, and the order reference it's tied to. We do not collect, see, or retain any identity document — no ID card, passport, driving licence, or photo — as part of this process.
↑ Back to top4. What unverified visitors can see
Before attesting to your age, you can see only non-explicit, clearly labelled marketing descriptions of every path, including After Dark — enough to understand what the product is and decide whether to continue — plus previews that are deliberately withheld or blurred where the underlying content is explicit.
Explicit card text and imagery are never shown to a visitor who has not made the age attestation, under any circumstance, on any page.
↑ Back to top5. Parental and guardian controls
Because our own verification is attestation-based rather than document-based, we also rely on device- and network-level controls that parents and guardians already have available: operating-system content restrictions, router-level filtering, and mobile-carrier adult-content blocks all work independently of anything we do on this site.
To support that filtering, the site can be labelled with the RTA
(Restricted to Adults) label, RTA-5042-1996-1400-1577-RTA-LABEL,
and with content-rating meta tags — both are options the seller can deploy
so that parental-control software recognises and blocks the site
automatically.
6. Consequences of a false attestation
If we discover, or receive credible information, that an order was placed or an attestation made by someone under 18 (or under the age of majority where they live), we will cancel the order, refund it, and terminate access to any related account or download. We will act on any credible report that a minor has obtained the product, including revoking access and removing associated content.
↑ Back to top7. Jurisdictional note — read this before launch
This is an open compliance item, not a solved one, and it needs a decision before this site goes live commercially. Several US states, and a growing number of countries, now require stronger third-party age assurance — rather than plain self-attestation — for sites that host a substantial portion of explicit material. The UK's Online Safety Act, in particular, imposes duties to use "highly effective age assurance" for services hosting pornographic content.
We say plainly: self-attestation alone may not satisfy those regimes. The seller needs to assess, market by market, whether the proportion and nature of After Dark's explicit content crosses the relevant legal threshold in each place this site sells. Where it does, a certified, independent age-assurance provider must be integrated before that market is served — and where compliant integration isn't feasible for a given market, the seller may need to geo-block that market instead of trying to serve it under self-attestation alone.
↑ Back to top8. Reporting a concern
If you believe a minor has accessed or purchased After Dark content, or that our age-attestation process has failed in some other way, please tell us right away at hello@meetmegently.com. We treat these reports as urgent and will investigate and act promptly.
